# Withdrawing from stBTC

You can redeem stBTC through Stacking DAO using an instant withdrawal or a standard withdrawal with a cooldown.

The redemption asset is sBTC on Stacks. Withdrawing stBTC does not send native BTC to a Bitcoin address.

### Choose a withdrawal method

| Method                  | When to use it                                                           | What to expect                                                                                |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Instant withdrawal**  | You want sBTC immediately and sufficient reserve liquidity is available. | Settlement in one Stacks transaction, with the fee and amount shown before confirmation.      |
| **Standard withdrawal** | You can wait and prefer the standard redemption route.                   | A two-step process: initiate the withdrawal, wait through the displayed cooldown, then claim. |

Availability, fees, exchange rates, and estimated timing can change. The values shown in the app when you submit the transaction are authoritative.

### Instant withdrawal

1. Open the [Stacking DAO app](https://app.stackingdao.com/) and connect the wallet holding your stBTC.
2. Open **stBTC** and select **Withdraw**.
3. Choose **Instant withdrawal**.
4. Enter the amount of stBTC you want to redeem.
5. Review the estimated sBTC received, conversion rate, fee, and available instant-withdrawal liquidity.
6. Confirm the withdrawal in the app and approve the transaction in your wallet.
7. Wait for the transaction to confirm on Stacks.

Instant withdrawals use the protocol's liquid reserve. The option may be limited or unavailable when the reserve cannot cover your requested amount.

### Standard withdrawal

1. Open the [Stacking DAO app](https://app.stackingdao.com/) and connect the wallet holding your stBTC.
2. Open **stBTC** and select **Withdraw**.
3. Choose **Standard withdrawal**.
4. Enter the amount of stBTC you want to redeem.
5. Review the estimated sBTC received and the displayed cooldown.
6. Confirm the withdrawal request in the app and approve the transaction in your wallet.
7. Keep the withdrawal position in your wallet. It represents your pending claim.
8. After the cooldown ends, return to the withdrawal page and select **Claim**.
9. Approve the claim transaction. The redeemed sBTC will be sent to your Stacks wallet after confirmation.

Do not transfer or discard the wallet position associated with a pending withdrawal. You may need it to claim the redeemed sBTC after the cooldown.

To receive native BTC, first redeem stBTC to sBTC. You can then use a separate supported sBTC peg-out flow. Never send stBTC or sBTC directly to a Bitcoin address.

### How the redemption amount is calculated

The amount you receive depends on:

* The amount of stBTC redeemed.
* The current stBTC/sBTC conversion rate.
* The selected withdrawal method.
* Any fee displayed before confirmation.

Review the minimum amount received before approving the transaction. Conversion rates and fees can change between opening the page and submitting the transaction.

### If a withdrawal is delayed

Check:

* Whether the initiation or claim transaction is confirmed on Stacks.
* Whether the cooldown has ended.
* Whether a separate claim action is available in the app.
* Whether you are connected with the wallet that initiated the withdrawal.

Do not create a second withdrawal for the same position unless the first transaction clearly failed. If a confirmed transaction remains unresolved beyond the estimate shown in the app, contact Stacking DAO support with the transaction ID. Never share your seed phrase or private keys.
